Which travel card for your trip?

Tell us about the trip and your habits, and we'll either match you to a card you can actually benefit from — or tell you to skip it. We won't suggest opening a card if you carry a balance or have a major loan coming up, and we'll flag any card whose bonus you likely couldn't hit on normal spending.

What are you hoping to get from a new credit card?

Who this is for

  • You have a trip coming up and wonder if a travel card is worth opening.
  • You pay your statement in full every month (if you don't, this will say skip).
  • You want the bonus without chasing fake spending to hit a minimum.

How it works

  1. 1Answer a few questions about the trip, your spending, and whether you pay in full.
  2. 2We screen out a new card entirely if you carry a balance or a hard inquiry would hurt soon.
  3. 3If a card genuinely fits, we show the match and why — otherwise we say skip.

Methodology

Guardrails come first and can block every recommendation regardless of payout: carrying a balance or an upcoming mortgage or major loan both return “don't open one.” If a card's welcome bonus would take more spending than you'd normally do, we flag that too. Only after the guardrails pass do we match on rewards fit. Compensation can affect whether an offer is available, never whether it's called the best fit. When you apply through a card link HansonsBudget may earn a commission — see our affiliate disclosure. Card offers change often; confirm current terms on the issuer's page before applying.

Example

Planning a $4,000 trip and you pay in full? A card with a sign-up bonus you'd clear on that spending can be worth hundreds in travel value. Carrying a $3,000 balance? The tool says skip — the interest dwarfs any rewards, and paying it down is the better move.

FAQ

Will this push me toward a card to earn a commission?
No. The guardrails can block all recommendations, and they run before any payout is considered. If a new card isn't right for you, the tool says so.
What if I carry a balance?
Then no new card. Card rewards are never worth paying ~20%+ interest. The tool will point you toward paying the balance down first.
Are the offers current?
We review them periodically and show the last-reviewed date, but issuers change bonuses and fees frequently — always confirm on the issuer's page before applying.
