Terms of Use
Effective May 22, 2026
The short version: HansonsBudget is a free, educational personal-finance tool. Use it to think clearly about your money — don't use it as a substitute for a real financial, tax, or legal professional. The longer version is below.
Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using HansonsBudget, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
What HansonsBudget is
HansonsBudget is a personal-finance web app that helps you see your money clearly and decide what to do next. Depending on the feature, that may include budgeting, net-worth tracking, calculators (e.g., raise / bonus / refund allocators, credit-card payoff, student-loan decision tools, “can I afford this?”), savings goals, retirement projections, and educational recommendations such as the Next Money Move allocator.
Educational use only
HansonsBudget is an educational and informational tool. Nothing in the app is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. It is not personalized to your full financial situation, risk profile, tax bracket, family circumstances, or local laws.
For decisions with real stakes — retirement allocation, large investments, taxes, estate planning, real estate purchases, debt restructuring, business formation — consult a qualified fiduciary advisor, CPA, or attorney.
No financial or advisory relationship
Using HansonsBudget does not create a fiduciary, advisory, broker-dealer, accountant, lender, or attorney-client relationship. HansonsBudget is not a financial advisor, registered investment adviser, broker, bank, lender, insurance agency, tax preparer, credit repair company, or law firm.
Your responsibilities
- You're responsible for your own financial decisions and for verifying any numbers or recommendations against your own data and goals.
- You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account secure (don't share your password; use a strong one).
- You agree not to use HansonsBudget to break the law, infringe others' rights, attack the service, scrape data, or reverse-engineer the application.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the service.
Account security
Keep your sign-in credentials confidential. If you suspect your account has been accessed without permission, change your password and email us at [hansongrant1@gmail.com] right away. We're not responsible for losses caused by your sharing of credentials.
Connected financial accounts
When you link a bank or other institution, you do so through Plaid Inc. — your bank credentials are entered directly with Plaid and never touch our servers. By linking an account you also agree to the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
HansonsBudget is read-only: we can see your balances and transactions to power the dashboard and recommendations, but we cannot move money on your behalf.
Accuracy of data
Account, transaction, balance, and merchant data come from Plaid and the underlying financial institutions. We don't guarantee that this data is complete, current, or error-free. Categorization is automated and may be wrong; you can override any category inside the app.
Third-party services and links
HansonsBudget depends on third-party services (Plaid, Supabase, Vercel, Anthropic, and any partner products we link to). Their performance, terms, and privacy practices are their own. Outages, changes, or errors on a third-party service can affect what you see in HansonsBudget.
External links lead to sites we don't control. We're not responsible for their content, security, or practices.
Affiliate and referral links
HansonsBudget may earn a referral fee or commission when you click a partner link and sign up for a product. Compensation does not dictate which products appear or how they're ranked — see our Editorial Policy and Affiliate Disclosure for the rules we hold ourselves to.
No guarantees
HansonsBudget is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee any financial outcome — savings, investment performance, approval for a credit card or loan, debt payoff, or tax savings. Past results, simulated scenarios, and projections shown in the app are educational and not predictions.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, HansonsBudget and its contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, lost data, or losses arising out of your use of — or inability to use — the service. Our total liability for any claim related to the service will not exceed $100 USD (placeholder — confirm cap with counsel).
Termination
You can stop using HansonsBudget at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account by emailing [hansongrant1@gmail.com]. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that harm other users or the service.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [New York], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located there, except where a different venue is required by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page. Continued use after the change means you accept the new terms.
